Russian corvette holds anti-sub exercise in Baltic Sea

MOSCOW. Oct 7 (Interfax) - The Kazanets corvette has destroyed a mock enemy submarine by a simulated torpedo strike during an exercise in the Baltic Sea, the Russian Baltic Fleet's press service said in a statement on Monday.

"The corvette practiced hunting submarines, anti-submarine maneuvering and tracking a submarine during an exercise in a designated district of the Baltic Sea," the statement said.

In addition, the ship simulated a torpedo strike, practiced depth bombing and destroyed mock enemy sea drones, it said.

"The ship conducted damage control, air defense and anti-sabotage drills," it said.

According to official information, the Kazanets corvette is designed to search for and destroy submarines in offshore and coastal zones. It is equipped with AK-176 and AK-630 anti-aircraft artillery systems, RBU-6000 rocket launchers, 533mm torpedo launchers, and sonars.
