VORONEZH. Oct 9 (Interfax) - An attempted terrorist attack has been thwarted in an administration building of the Russian Interior Ministry's branch for the Smolensk region, the press service for the regional branch of the Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Wednesday.
"A 30-year-old resident of the Tver region attempted to smuggle an improvised explosive device disguised as a folder with documents. The perpetrator was injured while being detained, and two employees of the regional branch of the Interior Ministry suffered concussions. They were taken to medical organizations at present," the press service said.
Bomb technicians are currently working at the incident scene.
The press service for the Russian Interior Ministry's main directorate for the Smolensk
region told Interfax that police officers disarmed the man when he had tried to detonate the explosive device.
"The man entered the administration building of the branch and attempted to detonate the improvised explosive device. At this moment, the police officers who are part of the duty shift [...] disarmed the man," the press service said.
Both the detained man and the police officers are in a medical facility, and their lives are not in danger, the press service said.
A criminal case of an attempted terrorist attack was initiated against the 30-year-old man.
