Russia, Pakistan begin joint military drill Friendship 2024 - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Oct 14 (Interfax) - The Joint Russian-Pakistani Exercise Friendship-2024 has begun at Pakistan's National Counter-Terrorism Center Pabbi, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"In the course of the exercise, service members of the two countries will drill cooperation in accomplishing tasks within the framework of combat operations in mountainous areas aimed to eradicate illegal armed formations and performing reconnaissance-and-search missions and reconnaissance-and-ambush operations in a mountainous and wooded locality," the ministry said in a statement.

The Russian Armed forces are represented by the personnel of a motorized rifle unit of the Southern Military District stationed in the Volgograd region, it said.

"The joint tactical exercise is aimed at consolidating and developing military cooperation between the two countries," it said.

During the opening ceremony, a representative of the Pakistani Ground Troops highlighted the importance of Russian-Pakistani strategic partnership, which helps enhance security in the region, it said.

Russia and Pakistan have been holding Friendship military drills since 2016. The National Counter-Terrorism Center Pabbi in Pakistan is hosting this exercise on October 14-26, 2024.
