U.S. doesn't want to influence Israel, this is why fighting in Mideast continues - Russian FM

KAZAN. Oct 23 (Interfax) - The fighting in the Middle East continues mostly because the United States does not want to influence Israel, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday, answering a question as to whether, in particular, the talks involving various countries on the settlement in the Middle East had any results.

"Why are you asking whether the talks had any result? The war is continuing, it means they did not have any. The main reason is that the U.S. does not want to influence Israel," Lavrov said.

The BRICS leaders recorded in the Kazan declaration their positions on all hot spots, which are currently being stirred up, and where there are attempts "to create a major war," he said.

"Today, the presidents demanded in their declaration that the bloodshed be ceased immediately, both in the Gaza Strip and in the south of Lebanon, and that all humanitarian issues be resolved immediately, because there is actually a catastrophe for civilians there. And that the practical steps to establish the Palestinian state begin immediately after the end of the fighting," Lavrov said.
