MOSCOW. Oct 24 (Interfax) - The State Duma ratified the Treaty of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the Russian Federation and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea on Thursday.
The Russian-North Korean treaty was signed in Pyongyang on June 19, 2024, to enhance the partnership and strategic interaction in a broad range of areas.
"The treaty fully takes into account the current geopolitical situation and brings relations between Russia and North Korea to a new level of alliance. This lays a foundation for broader cooperation in all areas and for a comprehensive strategic partnership between Moscow and Pyongyang based on the principles of mutual respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity and non-interference in internal affairs," head of the State Duma Foreign Affairs Committee Leonid Slutsky said, while commenting on the initiative.
The treaty is "peaceful and defensive nature, and is absolutely not aimed against third countries and does not envisage the establishment of military blocs, unlike Western agreements," he said
"Additionally, its ratification will contribute to the stability and balance in the Asia Pacific region and Northeast Asia, with due account of the Korean Peninsula factor," Slutsky said.
