Russia does not influence political situation in Georgia, Moldova - Kremlin (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Oct 25 (Interfax) - Russia does not interfere in the electoral processes in Georgia and Moldova, while it sees Western attempts to meddle with Georgian affairs, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"We are not trying in any way and can hardly influence electoral processes in those countries," Peskov told the press, while commenting on media reports alleging Russia's attempts to influence the political situation in Georgia and Moldova.

"We do not influence in any way and do not interfere in Georgian affairs. It is up to Georgians to make respective decisions. Yet we are observing completely unprecedented attempts of the West to interfere," he said.

Western states "are trying not just to twist Tbilisi's hands but also to literally dictate conditions. It's hard to imagine how the proud Georgian people can tolerate such ultimatums facing them every day," Peskov said.

He also denied Russia's interference in the Moldovan referendum on entry into the EU.

"There was no interference in that case either. However, changes in the dynamics of the vote count were visible with the naked eye in the course of the referendum. The Moldovan leadership did not bother to explain those anomalies," Peskov said.

"Clearly, specialists are asking questions and cannot comprehend the referendum results. We shall see how the election goes. A runoff is ahead," he said.
