MOSCOW. Oct 29 (Interfax) - The Russian Northern Fleet's Admiral Gorshkov frigate has called at the Tunisian port of Bizerte as a leg of its long-range voyage, the fleet press service said on Tuesday.
"The Russian ship's visit will include a series of protocol events involving the ship command and representatives of the Russian embassy to Tunisia, the Tunisian National Defense Ministry, the Tunisian Navy, and the Russian Science and Culture Center in Tunisia," the press service said.
The main goal of the visit is the participation of Russian sailors in the memorial events and ceremonies marking the centenary of the Russian Squadron stay in Tunisia and the lowering of the St. Andrew flag on its ships, the press service said.
The Russian Squadron is a tactical group of ships and supply vessels of the Russian Imperial Navy and motor vessels mobilized to evacuate the Russian Army of Gen. Wrangel and civilians who rejected Bolshevism from Crimea. The group operated in 1920-1924.
The Admiral Gorshkov frigate began its long-range voyage on May 17. Since then, it has covered over 13,000 nautical miles and has called at the Cuban port of Havana and the Venezuelan port of La Guaira, the press service said.
It was reported on July 30 that he Admiral Gorshkov had left the Algerian port of Oran.
