Russia must have advanced combat-ready nuclear forces - Putin

MOSCOW. Oct 29 (Interfax) - The nuclear triad remains a guarantor of Russia's sovereignty, taking into account the growth of external threats, as it is essential to have strategic combat-ready forces, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"We realize quite well that it is the nuclear triad that continues to be a reliable guarantor of our country's sovereignty and security, enables us to resolve the tasks of strategic deterrence, as well as maintain nuclear parity and the balance of power in the world as objective factors of global stability," Putin said on Tuesday, as he began an exercise of strategic deterrence forces.

"Given the increasing geopolitical tensions and emergence of new external threats and risks, it is important to have strategic forces that are advanced and constantly combat-ready," he said.
