TBILISI. Oct 30 (Interfax) - The Georgian parliamentary elections were calm and competitive, and any rigged election claims of the opposition are lies, Secretary General of the Georgian Dream ruling party, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said at a Tbilisi government meeting on Wednesday.
He said that 1.2 million have voted for the ruling party, yet the opposition refuses to believe it.
"As to the radical opposition, it is trying to incite protests with manipulations, disinformation and sheer lies, but all of its futile efforts are doomed to fail," Kaladze said.
The opposition failed to present a single fact of falsified elections, while the complaints filed with the Central Elections Commission (CEC) "are so helpless that they sound ridiculous," he said.
Opposition parties held no campaign: all they did was bring hateful accusations against not just the ruling party and its followers but also cultural figures, sport and business. "Society gave a proper answer to the hate campaign," Kaladze said.
The Georgian Dream ruling part was declared the winner of the Georgian parliamentary elections of October 26. The CEC said it had gained 54.08% of the vote. The opposition did not recognize election results.
