UK embassy employee may be brought to justice for pushing journalist at Moscow's Vnukovo airport - Russian Interior Ministry

MOSCOW. Oct 31 (Interfax) - Police detectives in Moscow are conducting an inquiry into an application filed by a journalist who was hurt in an attempt to interview British diplomats who arrived in Russia.

The inquiry was launched following an application filed by a 23-year-old woman resident of the Moscow region, who is a freelance correspondent of one of the online publications, the Russian Interior Ministry's press service told reporters on Thursday.

"The plaintiff said that as part of her editorial assignment, she was taking photos and videos and trying to interview diplomats from the United Kingdom who had arrived in Moscow. While the journalist was performing her professional duties, an unknown man who met the delegation, presumably an employee of the British embassy in the Russian Federation, pushed her, which resulted in the girl losing her balance," the statement said.

The police launched preliminary inquiry to ascertain all the circumstances of the incident. "When identifying signs of a crime, police officers will make a procedural decision, despite the status and immunity that the defendant may have," it said.

The police said that they intended to "act in accordance with Russian legislation, seeking the restoration of justice and the enforcement of the principle of inevitability of punishment regardless of perpetrators' citizenship."
