MINSK. Oct 31 (Interfax) - Latvia will be able to start confiscating cars with Belarusian license plates from this Friday, the Latvia's National Customs Board said on Thursday.
"In September, Saeima [Latvian parliament] passed on final reading an amendment to the Road Traffic law requiring owners of vehicles with Belarusian license plates either to remove from the country or re-register by October 31, or else risk confiscation of the vehicle," the Board said.
"According to the information received by the Belarusian Consulate General in Daugavpils, from October 31 movement of transport vehicles (TNVED code 8703, mechanic transport vehicles with a capacity below 10 people] on territory of the neighboring country is prohibited," it said.
The ban does not apply to buses providing regular international transportation services between the two countries, except in cases where such vehicles correspond to Code 8703, it said.
Use of Belarusian transport vehicles for diplomatic and consular missions in Latvia is permitted.
