Putin suggests holding meeting to make specific decisions on Northern Sea Route development

MOSCOW. Nov 6 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has suggested holding a meeting on the development of the Northern Sea Route in the future.

"I suggest holding a special meeting on this issue in the future, deeply considering, preparing and having a comprehensive discussion on all issues concerning the prospective development of the Northern Sea Route making specific, substantive decisions," he said at a videoconference during the ceremony to float out the Chukotka nuclear-powered icebreaker.

The work to develop the Eastern Polygon and modernize BAM and the Trans-Siberian Railway was organized in exactly that way, Putin said.

"Baltic Shipyard is now building two other ships of this class, the Yakutia and the Leningrad, and the keel of the Stalingrad icebreaker of this series is expected to be laid down next year, as agreed," he said.
