Russia's USC head confirms deadline for delivering Chukotka icebreaker to customer in 2026

ST. PETERSBURG. Nov 6 (Interfax) - Director General of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) Andrei Puchkov confirmed plans to hand over the Chukotka nuclear-powered icebreaker of Project 22220 to the customer in 2026.

"Everything is being done according to schedule, as expected," Puchkov told reporters following a ceremony of floating the nuclear-powered icebreaker at the Baltic Shipyard in St. Petersburg on Wednesday.

There are almost no foreign components in the Project 22220 icebreakers under construction as of now, Puchkov said. "Of course, they could be there at earlier stages, but now we have completely switched to domestic components," he added.

The Chukotka laying ceremony was held at the Baltic Shipyard in December 2020.

The Project 22220 icebreakers are designed to escort ships in the Arctic, in the areas from the Yenisei river and the Gulf of Ob, tow ships and other floating facilities in ice and clear water, as well as address other tasks. The capacity of the icebreakers is 60 MW.
