Azerbaijan's president, UK prime minister discuss Baku-Yerevan negotiation process

BAKU. Nov 12 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev discussed the current status of his country's talks with Armenia over a peace agreement at a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Baku on Tuesday.

At the meeting Aliyev said the British premier's visit was important for bilateral relations and historical, the Azerbaijani leader's website said.

For his part, Starmer asked about progress in the Armenia-Azerbaijan negotiations.

"Aliyev explained that discussions on a peace treaty were progressing, with much of the text already agreed upon. He noted significant progress in border delimitation and demarcation between Armenia and Azerbaijan, mentioning that over twelve kilometers of the border had not only been delimited but also demarcated, with the agreement to advance this process reached at the last meeting of the commission," Aliyev's press service said in a statement.

It is also important that Armenia removes its territorial claims to Azerbaijan from the national constitution, Aliyev said.

Readying the nations for a peace is important for advancing the peace process and signing of a peace agreement, he said.

He also expressed high appreciation of British assistance in the matter of demining in Azerbaijan.
