MOSCOW. Nov 13 (Interfax) - The commissioning of a U.S. Aegis missile defense base in Poland is an attempt at military deterrence of Russia's potential, which will lead to countermeasures, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"This is how U.S. military infrastructure is advancing in Europe towards our borders. This is nothing but an attempt to deter our military potential, which will obviously lead to respective countermeasures aimed to maintain the parity," Peskov said.
He thus commented on the base commissioning at the request of reporters.
"Back in the days of President Bush Jr., Vladimir Putin was conducting active negotiations and expressed concern about U.S. plans to deploy missile defense position areas in Europe," Peskov said.
"Back then, we insisted that U.S. claims that the plans targeted the ephemeral Iranian threat were actually lies and that all those plans were initially designed as an attempt at military deterrence of our potential," he said.
