MINSK. Nov 14 (Interfax) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has said he doubts that a woman could become the Belarusian president in the foreseeable future.
"God forbid a woman should be elected [president] in Belarus. In the U.S., the president has different powers, while here you have to go deeply into everything. In Belarus, the president is the commander-in-chief. And besides, it's such hard work. It would be wrong to overburden a woman so much, it's not a ceremonial post," Belarus's BelTA news agency quoted Lukashenko as telling journalists.
He, however, allowed for the possibility that women could govern the country in the future.
"Perhaps we could approach this style in time. But it's different for now. I worship women and don't belittle their role in any way. But they should be beside," Lukashenko said.
