Baku protests France's obstruction of Azerbaijan's presidency of COP29

BAKU. Nov 20 (Interfax) - The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry summoned French Ambassador Anne Boillon on Wednesday to be presented with a protest against Paris's moves obstructing Azerbaijan's presidency of the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29).

"On November 20, 2024, Anne Boillon, Ambassador of France to Azerbaijan, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the meeting, objection to France's targeting of the Azerbaijani presidency on the eve of and during the 29th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) was expressed," the ministry said in a statement published on its website.

The ministry denounced Paris's calling for boycotting the event hosted by Baku on November 11-22 and encouraging a number of country leaders to refrain from attending it, as well as its role in the adoption by the European Parliament of a resolution criticizing Azerbaijan's presidency and its efforts toward opposing climate change in general.

"Furthermore, it was brought to the [ambassador's] attention that the actions of France, which conducts Armenia's massive arms supply and promotes militarism and revanchism, undermine the peace process," it said.

The ministry demanded that France stop its actions targeted against Azerbaijan and jeopardizing the normalization process between the two countries.
