Several EU countries, Canada, U.S. suspend embassies in Ukraine

MADRID. Nov 20 (Interfax) - The Portuguese Foreign Ministry announced the temporary suspension of the country's embassy in Ukraine on Wednesday, the EFE news agency reported.

"Portugal will temporarily suspend its embassy in Kiev from Thursday, following a number of other countries, in particular, Spain and the United States," the news agency reported, citing the Portuguese Foreign Ministry.

The Portuguese Foreign Ministry did not name the reasons for these measures.

The embassy will not work for only a few days, Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel said.

The Canadian government also announced the temporary suspension of the Canadian embassy in Kiev in a statement published on its official website on Wednesday.

"The Embassy of Canada to Ukraine, in Kiev, has temporarily suspended in-person services due to the security situation," the statement said.

The U.S. embassy in Kiev announced its temporary suspension due to the receipt of "specific information" the previous day. Spain, Greece and Italy announced similar measures a few hours later.
