U.S. pre-notified by Russia of Oreshnik missile launch - Department of Defense

WASHINGTON. Nov 22 (Interfax) - Russia gave the United States a brief advance warning of the launch of the Oreshnik ballistic missile with a non-nuclear warhead on Ukraine, U.S. Department of Defense spokesperson Sabrina Singh said.

"The United States was pre-notified briefly before the launch through nuclear risk reduction channels," Singh said at a press briefing on Thursday.

Nevertheless, the U.S. will continue to support Ukraine and will send new military aid packages to it before the term in office of President Joe Biden's administration expires, she said.

The U.S. has not made any adjustments to its nuclear posture either, Singh said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier on Thursday that in response to the use of U.S. and British long-range weapons on November 21, the Russian Armed Forces delivered a combined strike on one of Ukraine's defense industry facilities using one of Russia's newest intermediate-range missile systems, namely, the Oreshnik ballistic missile equipped with a non-nuclear warhead.
