Putin: Oreshnik system created on basis of Russia's newest developments (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Nov 22 (Interfax) - The Oreshnik missile system, which was used on Thursday as part of Russia's ongoing special military operation, has been created on the basis of newest Russian designs.

"This system is a result, first and foremost, of your work, the work done in Russian [after the end of Soviet] times, in the New Russia, and in particular, on the basis of latest modern-day developments," Putin said during a meeting with the Russian Defense Ministry's senior officials and the defense sector's executives on Friday.

The development of the Oreshnik system demonstrates the potential of the Russian domestic rocket and missile engineering school, he said.

"The results achieved and the speed at which the new [Oreshnik] system was developed actually spark both pride and admiration, convincingly demonstrating that the domestic school of rocket science has great potential and is capable of meeting the most difficult challenges in ensuring Russia's security and sovereignty," he said.

"The Oreshnik system is not [a result of] the upgrading of old, Soviet-era systems," he said.

"Although it is understood that we all come from various systems of the Soviet Union, we all have been brought up on what was made by previous generations, and to a certain extent, we took advantage of their results," Putin said.
