Presidents of Russia, Belarus have their own nuclear briefcases - Belarusian Security Council secretary

MINSK. Dec 6 (Interfax) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin have their own "red buttons" and nuclear briefcase, State Secretary of the Belarusian Security Council Alexander Volfovich said in Minsk on Friday.

"Each president has his own 'red button', his own briefcase, his own nuclear briefcase. The weapons hosted by Belarus can be used only by the Belarusian president, while the weapons deployed on the Russian territory can be used only on the orders from the Russian president," Volfovich said before a meeting of the Russia-Belarus Union State's Supreme State Council, as quoted by the Belarusian state-run news agency BelTA.

He said he was not authorized to disclose the procedure for using nuclear weapons envisaged by the draft treaty on security guarantees in the Russia-Belarus Union State but said Russia would protect Belarus at a difficult moment, while Belarus is always ready to support Russia.
