Belarus retains diplomatic presence in Syria, decides to work from Lebanon - Foreign Ministry

MINSK. Dec 16 (Interfax) - Belarus retains its diplomatic presence in Syria, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry told the BelTA state news agency on Monday.

"At present, we retain our diplomatic presence in Syria. From the international-legal standpoint, nothing changed in this context. Our diplomatic and inter-state relations continue," the ministry said.

"However, given the logistic and other issues at this stage it has been decided to organize the work of the Belarusian diplomatic mission from Lebanese territory," it said.

Previously, the ministry said that its diplomats in Damascus had been moved to Minsk with the assistance of their Russian counterparts.

The Belarusian Embassy to Syria has set up a temporary consular outpost in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.
