Moscow City Court sentences U.S. citizen Spector to 15 years in jail on espionage counts (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Dec 24 (Interfax) - The Moscow City Court has sentenced Eugene Spector, former chair of the Medpolymerprom Group's Board of Directors, to 15 years in a high-security penitentiary on espionage counts, an Interfax correspondent reported.

"Ultimately, sentence Spector to 15 years in a high-security penitentiary," the court said in its ruling.

Spector was also fined 14 million rubles.

The sentence was handed down in totality with the previous sentence on counts of mediating bribery of Anastasia Alexeyeva, former assistant of former Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich.

Spector was found guilty of spying.

The sentence has yet to take effect and can be appealed.

The Moscow City Court held the trial in camera due to classified materials in the proceeding. The court read out only the introductory part of the sentence and final verdict.

Spector was detained in February 2020 in the case of bribing Alexeyeva with vacation vouchers. He took the plea bargain and was sentenced to 3.5 years in a high-security penitentiary at a repeat trial in September 2022 for mediating bribery of Alexeyeva.

Spector was arrested in August 2023 on espionage counts. No official information about the details of the case was provided.
