Presidents of Belarus, Russia discuss regional security, bilateral relations on Wed - Belarusian presidential press secretary

IGORA, Leningrad region. Dec 26 (Interfax) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin discussed regional security and bilateral relations at their one-on-one meeting on December 25, Belarusian presidential press secretary Natalia Eismont told the press.

"You and I understand that the presidents can never ignore security issues. The No. 1 item on the agenda is security in general, regional security, and the unfolding situation that changes literally every hour, if not every minute, and therefore, of course, these issues are No. 1," Eismont said.

Bilateral cooperation in various areas, including economic affairs, was also discussed, she said. "Indeed, the SSC [Supreme State Council of the Union State] met a short time ago, and the governments are quite effective, they are working actively. The presidents stay in touch, including by phone and here, and always find an opportunity to discuss items on the bilateral agenda," she said.

Citing Lukashenko, she said the presidents "discussed state and, of course, personal issues."
