Russia open to nuclear energy projects in Vietnam, exploring LNG supply options - PM

HANOI. Jan 15 (Interfax) - Russia is exploring options of cooperation with Vietnam in low carbon energy projects, including nuclear, solar and wind power generation, in addition to liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said on Wednesday while visiting Hanoi.

"Cooperation in solar and wind power generation and green transport can provide a new basis for cooperation. Our country has laid a good groundwork in this area. We are ready to launch nuclear power generation projects and develop electric river transport in Vietnam. We are also exploring the possible delivery of Russian low carbon products and LNG to Vietnam," Mishustin said at a meeting with Russian and Vietnamese entrepreneurs.

Rosatom Energy Projects, Rosatom's entity promoting energy projects abroad, and Vietnam Electricity (EVN) signed a memorandum of understanding to develop cooperation in nuclear energy on Tuesday.

Russia and Vietnam also plan to deepen industrial cooperation, Mishustin said. He cited the machine building industry as an example and said, "Cars made in the republic by a joint venture are exported to neighboring states."

While interacting with Vietnam, Russia highlights "the resolution of logistics problems," given that Vietnam has become "a significant logistics hub, including for Russia, allowing larger exports of Russian products to Southeast Asian countries," Mishustin said.
