Russian Defense Ministry: Ukrainian forces lose over 210 troops, Ukrainian counterattack repelled in Kursk sector in past 24 hours

MOSCOW. Jan 16 (Interfax) - Russian forces have repelled a Ukrainian counterattack, and the Ukrainian army has lost over 210 troops in the Kursk sector in the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Thursday.

"In the past 24 hours, the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost over 210 troops, and two infantry vehicles, an armored combat vehicle, six vehicles, a U.S.-made M777 howitzer, and eight mortars were destroyed," the ministry said in a statement.

Units from the northern group of forces hit detachments of 12 Ukrainian brigades near four populated localities in the Kursk region, the statement said. "The enemy's counterattack was repelled," it said.

"The enemy has lost more than 52,330 troops over the period of hostilities in the Kursk sector," it said.

"Tactical aircraft, army aviation and artillery struck hostile troops and hardware near Bondarevka, Zamostye, Zaoleshenka, Kositsa, Kruglenkoye, Loknya, Martynovka, Mirny, and Yuzhny [in the Kursk region], and Basovka, Belovody, Veselovka, Vodolagi, Zhuravka and Miropolye in the Sumy region," it said.

The Ukrainian army has lost 305 tanks, 231 infantry vehicles, 170 armored personnel carriers, 1,567 armored combat vehicles, 1,486 vehicles, 367 artillery systems, 44 multiple rocket launchers, including 13 HIMARS and six MLRS made in the U.S., 16 air defense missile launchers, eight transporter-loaders, 93 electronic warfare stations, 14 counterbattery radars, four air defense radars, 30 engineering and other vehicles, including 15 combat engineer vehicles and an UR-77 demining vehicle, eight armored maintenance and evacuation vehicles, and a command vehicle in the Kursk sector to date, the ministry's statement said.
