Russian Pacific Fleet helicopters destroy mock enemy sea drones at drills in Kamchatka

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY. Jan 17 (Interfax) - Four helicopters from the Russian Pacific Fleet's naval aviation conducted comprehensive training, including practical drills over the Avacha Gulf, the fleet's press service said in a statement on Friday.

Pairs of Kamov Ka-29 attack helicopters and Ka-27PL anti-submarine helicopters took part in the exercise, during which they hunted a mock enemy submarine and repelled an attack by mock enemy unmanned boats on the fleet's base, the statement said.

"Under the scenario of the exercise, an unidentified submarine was detected in the forces' zone of responsibility in the north-east of Russia, and Ka-27PL helicopters were tasked with hunting and tracking it down," the press service said.

The helicopters then sent the mock submarine's coordinates to the Ust-Ilimsk small anti-submarine warfare ship, it said.

In another part of the exercise, monitoring systems detected a group of sea drones rapidly moving toward the Avacha Bay, the statement said.

"Ka-29 helicopters of the Pacific Fleet's marine aviation with a landing force onboard were scrambled from the Yelizovo airfield. They spotted the mock enemy unmanned boats near the Khalaktyrsky beach and destroyed them from small arms before they entered the Avacha Bay," it said.

At the command of a roadstead service on-duty officer, tugboats closed the boom gates. All mock enemy attempts to attack ships and submarines at their bases and on exit routes from the bases were thwarted through the joint efforts.
