Russian Defense Ministry: Ukrainian counterattack repelled, Ukrainian forces lose over 270 troops in Kursk sector in past 24 hours

MOSCOW. Jan 21 (Interfax) - Russian forces have repelled a Ukrainian counterattack in the Kursk sector, while Ukrainian forces have lost more than 270 troops in that area in the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

"In the past 24 hours, the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost more than 270 troops, and an Abrams tank and a Bradley infantry vehicle made in the U.S., three armored personnel carriers, nine armored combat vehicles, nine trucks, three artillery systems, a mortar, and two ECM stations were destroyed," the ministry said.

"One counterattack by the enemy was repelled," it said.

Units from the northern group of forces continued their offensive and struck detachments of a tank brigade, a heavy mechanized brigade, four mechanized brigades, two air assault brigades, a marine brigade, and three territorial defense brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near Gogolevka, Guyevo, Kurilovka, Lebedevka, Loknya, Makhnovka, Nikolayevka, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Nikolsky, Staraya Sorochina, and Sverdlikovo in the Kursk region, it said.

Russian planes, helicopters and artillery hit Ukrainian forces near 17 communities in the Kursk region and six communities in the Sumy region, the ministry said.

"Over the period of hostilities in the Kursk region, the enemy has lost more than 53,600 troops, 309 tanks, 237 infantry vehicles, 178 armored personnel carriers, 1,590 armored combat vehicles, 1,574 trucks, 381 artillery systems, 44 multiple rocket launchers, including 13 HIMARS and six MLRS made in the United States, 16 air defense missile launchers, eight transporter-loaders, 96 electronic warfare stations, 14 counterbattery radars, four air defense radars, and 31 engineering and other vehicles," it said.
