MOSCOW. Jan 23 (Interfax) - The Russian northern group of forces hit Ukrainian troops and repelled a Ukrainian counterattack in the Kursk region over the past day, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
"An enemy counterattack has been repelled," the ministry said.
Tactical aircraft, army aviation and artillery struck hostile troops and hardware near 16 populated localities in the Kursk region and six populated localities in the Sumy region, it said.
"Units from the northern group of forces continued their offensive and struck detachments of a tank brigade, a heavy mechanized brigade, four mechanized brigades, two air assault brigades, a marine brigade and three territorial defense brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near Viktorovka, Guyevo, Kositsa, Lebedevka, Malaya Loknya, Makhnovka, Nikolayevka, Nikolayevo-Daryino, Nikolsky, Rubanshchina, Sverdlikovo, Staraya Sorochina, and Sudzha," it said.
