Russian FM, SCO secretary general discuss organization's strengthening, improvement - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Jan 23 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Secretary General Nurlan Yermekbayev on Thursday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.

"Today, literally at this very moment, the Russian foreign minister is meeting with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization secretary general on a working visit to Moscow," Zakharova told the press on Thursday.

The meeting will address further strengthening of the SCO and improvement of its performance under current circumstances, she said.

Emphasis will be put on steps to boost trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation in the SCO, and views will be exchanged on global affairs, Zakharova said.

Lavrov will chair a meeting of the Russian Commission for UNESCO Affairs, to be attended by representatives of respective agencies, regional heads, and business and academic community members, on January 28, she said.

The meeting will address plans for developing cooperation with UNESCO, Zakharova said.
