Ukrainian Armed Forces shrinking, losing 50,000 troops a month - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Jan 30 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian Armed Forces have been losing about 50,000 troops per month in the past half a year, while training centers prepare up to 30,000 new recruits per month, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"Monthly sanitary and irreparable losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces have stably averaged 50,000 troops or more (51,960 in January 2025, 48,470 in December 2024, 60,805 in November 2024, and so on) over the past six months," the ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

"At the same time, the number of new recruits at the Ukrainian Armed Forces' training centers has barely reached 30,000 per month in the past six months, despite the intensified activity of territorial recruitment centers across Ukraine. They are sent to the contact line without proper training, which leads to the shrinking of the Ukrainian army," the statement said.

"According to the official data, about 100,000 Ukrainian troops have deserted their units and gone into hiding," it said.
