ALMATY. Jan 31 (Interfax) - Russia will create the framework for its own constellation of communication satellites in 2027 and will subsequently put around 300 satellites into orbit to provide Internet access across all countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said.
A priority of Russia's digitalization efforts is the development of advanced satellite constellations and systems to offer services at a new level, Mishustin said at the Digital Almaty 2025 forum on Friday.
"Next year, we plan to lift four communication satellites to a highly elliptical orbit to provide a range of services, among them high-speed broadband Internet access all over the territory of the Russian Federation, including the Arctic. And in another year from now, we will create the framework for our own low-orbit constellation," he said.
Some 300 satellites will subsequently be put in orbit and "will be able to cover the needs in low-cost and fast Internet not only in Russia but in all countries of the EAEU," he said.
