Kremlin welcomes U.S. desire to end Ukraine conflict - Peskov

MOSCOW. Feb 13 (Interfax) - Moscow welcomes the desire of the incumbent U.S. presidential administration to end the Ukraine conflict, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"The previous U.S. administration believed that everything should be done to keep the war going. As we understand, the incumbent administration believes that everything should be done to end the war and establish peace. We like the position of the incumbent administration much better, and we are open to dialogue," Peskov told journalists on Thursday.

The Kremlin views the phone call Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump had yesterday as "very important," he said.

"Moscow and Washington have not had summit contacts for years against the backdrop of ongoing events. Indeed, the absence of contacts did not help search for settlement options," Peskov said.

Putin and Trump spoke by phone on Wednesday and discussed Ukraine among other issues.
