All Moscow sees is trend towards NATO's enhancement on eastern flank - deputy FM

MOSCOW. Feb 18 (Interfax) - Russia sees no sign of U.S. forces' possible pullout from the Baltic states, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said on Tuesday.

"No, all we see is the opposite," Grushko told the press in Moscow in response to a related question.

"We can see NATO discussions about the need for enhancing the current configuration of NATO forces deployed not just in the Baltic states but also in Poland and alongside the entire eastern perimeter of the alliance. They have decided to raise the deployment level to brigade (from current battalions) and to create an additional network of arms depots to facilitate the enhancement of sectors they deem important," Grushko said.

This means that NATO has taken the path of escalation of tensions and "development of potentials they may view as sufficient, in particular, for a potential offensive," he said.
