MOSCOW. Feb 18 (Interfax) - The Brest small antisubmarine ship has conducted an air defense exercise in the Barents Sea, the press service of Russia's Northern Fleet said on Tuesday.
"According to the exercise scenario, a single ship had to counter a mock enemy's airstrike and destroy a small-sized aerial target approaching the ship," the press service said in a statement.
The ship fired an Osa-MA anti-aircraft missile system, an AK-176M artillery gun, and an AK-630M 30mm quick-firing artillery system upon a simulated aerial target, the statement said.
The ship interacted with Ilyushin Il-38 antisubmarine aircraft and Kamov Ka-27 helicopters of the Northern Fleet's combined air corps at some stages of the exercise, it said.
"The ship's combat teams also honed their skills in countering various types of unmanned aerial vehicles. Preliminary results of the exercise show that the aerial targets were struck successfully," it said.
The Brest is also preparing to perform artillery firing to practice striking visible and defiladed coastal targets, the statement said.
