Yars strategic missile systems practicing in Siberia - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Feb19 (Interfax) - Yars road-mobile missile systems of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces' Novosibirsk Formation have deployed to combat patrol routes for an exercise, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Wednesday.

"The Yars road-mobile ground-launched missile systems are practicing deployment of up to 100 kilometers, dispersal of launchers, change of positions, and their engineering equipment and defense," the ministry said.

"During the exercise, missile units are practicing dispersal in a forest to enhance security of Yars road-mobile missile systems," it said.

They are also training at countering sabotage and reconnaissance groups, the ministry said.

"Scheduled exercises allow checking the preparedness of troops, weapons and military hardware for long-term duty on combat patrol routes," it said.

The ministry released footage of the deployment of Yars road-mobile systems for an exercise on Wednesday.

On February 6, it said Yars road-mobile missile systems of the Yoshkar-Ola Missile Formation were deployed to combat patrol routes.

According to official information, Yars carrying a multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle has a top range of 11,000 kilometers.

Based on official information, silo-based and road-mobile Yars intercontinental ballistic missiles constitute the core of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces.

The Strategic Missile Forces are a branch of the Russian Armed Forces and the chief element of the strategic nuclear forces.
