Militant planning terrorist attacks in Moscow metro, synagogue killed - Russia's FSB

MOSCOW. March 3 (Interfax) - A follower of international terrorists plotting attacks on the Moscow metro and a synagogue has been killed in a fire exchange in the Moscow region, the public relations center of the Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Monday.

"The terrorist was planning to blow up improvised bombs at a synagogue in the Moscow region and a station of the Moscow metro," the FSB said.

After perpetrating the attacks, he was planning to join terrorists in Afghanistan, it said.

"The criminal put up armed resistance to arresting officers of the Russian FSB and was neutralized in a fire exchange," the FSB said.

Firearms, as well as components, chemicals and pellets for explosive devices were found in the investigative procedures conducted at the man's residence, it said.

The investigative division of the FSB branch in Moscow and the Moscow region opened a criminal case on counts of terrorist attack, organization of terrorist network operations, and alignment to a terrorist network.

The killed militant was a citizen of Russia born in a Central Asian state, the FSB said.
