Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Party declared undesirable in Russia - Prosecutor General's Office

MOSCOW. March 3 (Interfax) - The Russian Prosecutor General's Office has declared the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Party and its youth branch undesirable in Russia.

"The Russian Prosecutor General's Office has decided to declare the activity of international organizations - the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Party and its youth branch European Liberal Youth (Belgium) - undesirable on the territory of the Russian Federation," the office said in a statement on Monday.

"The Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Party is one of the most anti-Russian political forces in the European Union," the statement said.

"It has been consistently discrediting the Russian domestic and foreign policy and accusing the authorities of breaching democratic principles and civil rights and freedoms. Since the beginning of the special military operation, the party and its youth wing have been calling for international isolation of our country and demanding stricter sanctions and military and financial assistance to the Kiev regime, while openly supporting the invasion of the Kursk region," it said.

Founded in 1993, the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) unites liberal and liberal democratic parties mostly operating in EU member states. It is registered in Belgium as an NGO.
