Belarusian defense minister visits range to watch combat readiness check

MINSK. March 11 (Interfax) - Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin watched a combat readiness check at a range on Tuesday, the ministry's press service said in a statement.

"The main part of an exercise with units participating in the Armed Forces' combat readiness check is taking place at the 227th combined-arms range," the statement said.

"Belarusian Defense Minister Lieut. Gen. Viktor Khrenin is watching the tactical games," it said.

"The enlisted men are firing tank cannons, antitank missiles and firearms at the mock enemy during the exercise," the statement said.

Aircraft, artillery and drones are being broadly used in the training, it said.

The combat readiness check in the Belarusian Armed Forces began on February 3 under the supervision of General Staff Chief, First Deputy Defense Minister Pavel Muraveiko.

The check evaluates the readiness and capacity of mechanized forces to accomplish their missions, the statement said. Besides, new tactics for reconnaissance and attack aircraft are being tested in joint missions with ground forces.
