MOSCOW. March 11 (Interfax) - The Snezhnogorsk and the Yunga small antisubmarine ships of Russia's Northern Fleet have practiced destroying an enemy submarine and firing torpedoes in an exercise in the Barents Sea, the Northern Fleet press service said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The Snezhnogorsk and the Yunga small antisubmarine ships of the Northern Fleet's Kola Flotilla of combined forces have practiced attacking a simulated enemy's submarine using standard weapons in the Barents Sea," the statement said.

"A Northern Fleet nuclear submarine played the role of a simulated enemy," it said.

The ships practiced searching for, discovering, and tracking the submarine using sonars, it said.

"The small antisubmarine ships practiced evading a submarine torpedo attack," it said.

The ships also practiced firing torpedoes and RBU-6000 rocket-assisted depth-charge launchers, it said.

"The area of the combat exercise was closed to [civilian] navigation and aircraft," it said.
