Russia's FSB finds series of parcels with explosive devices targeting military officials, public servants

MOSCOW. March 13 (Interfax) - A series of terrorist attacks Ukrainian special services plotted to stage by sending explosive devices to Russian military officials and public servants by mail has been prevented, Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said.

"A series of acts of sabotage and terrorist attacks Ukrainian special services plotted to perpetrate against Russian Defense Ministry servicemen taking part in the special military operation and public servants providing support to military units in the special military operation zone was prevented," the FSB press center said in a statement on Thursday.

Five parcels containing improvised explosive devices disguised as perfume gift sets were found at the Chelyabinsk airport, the press center said. FSB explosives experts disposed of the bombs on the spot.

"According to experts' conclusions, the explosive devices were activated and would have gone off when the recipients opened the parcels," it said.

A Russian citizen, born in 2003, recruited by Ukrainian special services was later detained in Pervouralsk, Sverdlovsk region. "In March 2025, in exchange for a money reward, he removed the parcels from caches in Chelyabinsk and sent them via Russian Post to military officials and public servants living in Moscow, Voronezh, the Krasnodar Territory and the Saratov region," the statement said.
