Armenia shouldn't continue Karabakh campaign - Pashinyan

YEREVAN. March 26 (Interfax) - Armenia should not continue its Karabakh campaign, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said, adding that he is willing to sign a peace agreement with Azerbaijan.

"Should we continue the Karabakh campaign or not? I've spoken before about how this campaign earlier obstructed the development of our state and statehood," Pashinyan said at a Government Hour hearing at the parliament on Wednesday.

"I should say openly that we shouldn't continue the Karabakh campaign," he said.

Pashinyan said he was willing to sign the finalized text of an agreement on peace with Azerbaijan.

"Azerbaijan should say the same. This is a result of our joint work. We've invited Azerbaijan to start consultations on the dates and venue of its signing. Apart from public statements, we've also forwarded our proposal via diplomatic channels," he said.

Both Azerbaijan and Armenia might have objections to some of the constitutional provisions that could be interpreted as territorial claims, Pashinyan said.

"A wise way to resolve the problems of the constitutions is signing a peace agreement, because, after the agreement is signed and ratified, our mutual obligations to recognize the territorial integrity of the countries will have more power than our national laws," Pashinyan said.
