MOSCOW. March 28 (Interfax) - Russia is ready to consider a request for humanitarian aid to the Asian countries stricken by an earthquake on Friday, if such request is made, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.
"As far as I know, no request was made yet, but the earthquake happened just recently. Now, of course, the authorities of the relevant countries need time to assess the damage caused by the devastation which resulted from the earthquake," Peskov told reporters on Friday.
"But, if such requests are made, of course, the Russian side will consider them with all due attention and urgency," he said.
A magnitude 7.7 earthquake hit Myanmar on Friday, and tremors were felt in Bangladesh, India, Thailand, Laos, and China. People were hurt and killed. The Thai authorities declared a state of emergency in Bangkok and evacuated residents from high-rise buildings in the city.
