Washington interested in dialogue with Moscow, this should be used as constructively as possible - senator (Part 2)

MOSCOW. March 28 (Interfax) - The incumbent U.S. administration is interested in dialogue with Russia, and this interest should be used to the utmost, member of the Russian delegation to the Russian-U.S. talks in Saudi Arabia, head of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin said.

"I believe that the incumbent U.S. administration is interested in the dialogue with us, in the search for certain joint approaches and solutions, and this stage should be used as constructively as possible, which is actually what we are doing," Karasin said in an interview with the Rossiya-24 television channel on Friday.

As to what should be done if Washington withdraws from the Ukraine peace process, Karasin said, "Indeed, they could give up on this but they still remain part of the international community and will be involved in these affairs one way or another, being a large state."

"Still, we should always count on the importance of achieving positive results, without thinking what will happen if we fail to achieve them. Apparently, we should give consideration to this in a quieter, calmer manner and seek to achieve our security objectives," he said.

In this case, this is not just security, but strategic security for Russia, Karasin said.

"We will raise these issues directly and hope that today's Washington, today's administration of that country understands us, while Europe may gradually return to common sense, some kind of realism," he said.
