MOSCOW. March 28 (Interfax) - The idea of international control of Ukraine for the sake of elections is a step in the right direction, but this cannot be done promptly, head of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs, member of the Russian delegation to the Russian-U.S. consultations in Riyadh Grigory Karasin said.
"After all, we want everything to be stable and predictable there, we want people to enjoy their life instead of recruitment of additional volunteers, soldiers, young people caught in the street, and so on. So, I believe this idea is a step in the absolutely right direction," Karasin said in an interview with the Rossiya-24 television channel (VGTRK) on Friday.
The program anchor asked Karasin about "international control of Kiev for the sake of elections."
"Of course, this cannot be done promptly, I mean several days or weeks, but this is quite feasible as a trend for joint consideration by the global community. When something unpredictable, uncontrolled is happening in a big country, which is our neighbor and, largely, a brother, why not think about it?" he said.
Europe's stance is hindering this course of events, Karasin said. "There is absolutely no need for foreign troops in the Ukrainian territory. We should look for other long-term solutions, which would not be associated with the presence of foreign troops in Ukraine, or else the entire thing will drag out forever," he said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier it was possible to discuss the idea of external administration in Ukraine for the sake of democratic elections.
