Trump says wishes to avoid secondary tariffs on Russia

WASHINGTON. March 31 (Interfax) - U.S. President Donald Trump has said he would like to avoid secondary sanctions on Russia.

"I certainly wouldn't want to put secondary tariffs on Russia," Trump told the presidential press pool.

"It would not be very good for them," he said.

Trump said in an interview with NBC on Sunday that he was going to impose 25% secondary tariffs on Russian oil exports if Moscow failed to sign the Ukraine deal.

If Russia and I are unable to make a deal on stopping the bloodshed in Ukraine [...] I am going to put secondary tariffs on oil, on all oil coming out of Russia," he said.

Trump added he would do that if he realized that Russia was responsible for the absence of the deal.

He also said he was ready to prohibit foreign companies buying Russian oil from doing business in the United States.
