Putin, Pezeshkian discuss progress of Iranian-U.S. talks by phone - Kremlin (Part 2)

MOSCOW. May 6 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian have spoken by phone, the Kremlin press service said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The parties exchanged views on current global and regional affairs, including progress of Iranian-U.S. negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program mediated by Oman. The Russian side reaffirmed its readiness to facilitate this dialogue aimed at a fair agreement based on the principles of international law," the press service said.

The presidents discussed further development of Russian-Iranian cooperation under the Treaty of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership signed during Pezeshkian's official visit to Russia on January 17.

"Expansion of mutually beneficial trade and investments, including through large joint projects in transport and energy, was highlighted," the statement said.

Putin again extended condolences over the deaths in an explosion at the Shahid Rajaee port on April 26. "In turn, Masoud Pezeshkian thanked the Russian side for quickly rendering assistance in the mitigation of this disaster and noted high professional skills of Russian Emergency Situations Ministry specialists," it said.

"Additionally, the Iranian president warmly congratulated Vladimir Putin and all citizens of Russia on the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War," the statement said.

The presidents agreed to step up the joint work on comprehensive strengthening of Russian-Iranian practical cooperation and coordination on the foreign political track.
