MOSCOW. May 21 (Interfax) - The creation of the Golden Dome missile defense system is a sovereign matter for the United States, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.
"It is a sovereign matter for the United States. If the U.S. believes there is a real danger, then of course, they are developing missile defense systems," he told reporters.
"All countries that have such capabilities do that," Peskov said.
Journalists asked Peskov whether Russia sees a threat to nuclear parity with the United States in connection with the Golden Dome project. "It's necessary to understand the nuances here. No details of this project are available yet. No doubt, of course, the course of events itself will require resumption of contacts on strategic stability in the foreseeable future," Peskov said.
Now that "the legislative framework in this area has been destroyed," it needs to be recreated in the interests of Russia and the United States and "in the interests of security on the entire planet," he said.
