MOSCOW. May 27 (Interfax) - The decision to lift the European limits on the range of weapons for Ukraine is "a serious escalation" if true, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"One way or another, this is an escalation, a serious escalation if this is true," Peskov said.
It is unclear for now whether the restrictions have been lifted or not, he said.
"Yesterday, [German Chancellor Friedrich] Merz said the decision had been made. Truth be told, he did not speak about the Americans, he spoke about the Europeans and the UK. A member of his government denied that yesterday. Merz insisted today or late last night that the decision was made several months ago," Peskov said.
If the decision has actually been made, this is a serious escalation, "which seems to seriously contravene the current efforts towards a peaceful settlement," he said.
