MOSCOW. May 28 (Interfax) - Russia puts national interests above anything else in settling the Ukraine crisis, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"Obviously, the U.S. side and personally President Trump are taking substantial efforts towards a peaceful settlement and want it happen as soon as possible. Once again, we say that we appreciate the mediating efforts taken by President Trump personally. However, there is definitely a huge number of nuances as to what needs to be discussed, what cannot be sacrificed, and what neither side will sacrifice due to its national interests. Just like the United States, Russia has national interests of its own, and puts them above anything else," Peskov told the press on Wednesday.
Reporters asked Peskov to comment on Trump's statement that Putin "was playing with fire," which he posted on a social network on Tuesday.
